Raku is a pottery technique that involves removing the piece from the kiln while it is still glowing red hot. The piece is then exposed to air before being placed into containers filled with combustible materials, such as paper or wood shavings. Once these materials ignite and produce flames, the containers are closed and sealed. This process creates unique markings on each piece, ensuring that no two are exactly alike.
